YUDABINDBAND reveal their first impressions of each other, how their experiences on different competition shows were, 2024 resolutions, and more!

Please introduce yourselves and share what special skills or qualities each member contributes to the group!

Lee Junhyung: I’m Lee Junhyung, who plays guitar in the band and composes music. I’m a singer-songwriter too, and I tend to organize our schedules and plans.

Cho Youngyun: I play the bass in the team, and sometimes I play special instruments if needed!

Lee Sangwoon: I’m Sangwoon, the “cheerleader” and drummer of the band, and I also contribute to song arrangements!

Yu Dabin: I sing and write music and sometimes give the team some unexpected projects, LOL!

You Myeongjong: I’m in charge of the band’s visuals, haha. I also play the piano and sometimes write songs.

For those who haven’t heard your music before, how would you describe it to them? How would you finish the sentence “YUDABINBAND is __” or “YUDABINBAND’s music is ___”?

Lee Junhyung: “YUDABINBAND is youth.”

Cho Youngyun: “YUDABINBAND is your story.”

Lee Sangwoon: “YUDABINBAND sings for the lost hearts.”

Yu Dabin: “YUDABINBAND is five members.”

You Myeongjong: “YUDABINBAND is life.”

How did you first become a band? Do you remember your first impressions of each other?

Lee Junhyung: Dabin was the departmental student representative, and I thought she was a show host due to her officiating skills.

Cho Youngyun: When I first met Sangwoon, I was confused because he looked the same as the grandpa from Up.

Lee Sangwoon: I just felt, “There is someone who is just like me” when I met Youngyun.

Yu Dabin: I was kind of scared [of] Youngyun, but he was more friendly and kind than anyone.

You Myeongjong: When I met Junhyung, he had curly hair. He looked like someone from the show My Little Television.

Please describe one of your latest singles, “ONCE”!

Yu Dabin: This is a song I wrote while thinking about what kind of person I would have been to someone I could never meet again. I hope that through this song, you can reminisce about good memories or ones that you had forgotten.

What has changed from year to year about your music or your process? In other words, how is 2021 YUDABINBAND different from 2022 YUDABINBAND and 2023 YUDABINBAND?

Lee Junhyung: In 2021, the members made music arranged and written by Dabin. Since we were on GSI (aka Great Seoul Invasion) in 2022, we have been participating in composing and writing lyrics together. It’s nice to have a stake in the copyright, LOL!

Lee Sangwoon: In 2021, we tried to support Dabin’s autobiographical songs without compromising their meaning, and now we all work together to create our story and the stories of friends.

You Myeongjong: I think we are broadening our music colors by showing off our individual musical talents.

What word or phrase best describes your time on Great Seoul Invasion, and why?

Lee Junhyung: “Work.” I always wanted to be an artist for a job, and GSI made it work.

Lee Sangwoon: “Luck.” I think I have had so much luck in my life, and GSI seems to be one of those times.

You Myeongjong: “Resolution.” I think GSI was the factor that made my final decision regarding music.

Yu Dabin, what was your experience like on Superstar K 2016, and how was that experience similar or different compared to being on the show Great Seoul Invasion?

Yu Dabin: Filming Superstar K, along with the entrance exam, was very physically and mentally difficult, but it was an honor to meet many people who are making music, and it was an experience where I learned a lot. GSI was really great, as five people working together as a team. I didn't have many opportunities to meet other bands, but I was really happy that I had contact with other bands through GSI.

Did you make any 2024 New Year’s resolutions?

Lee Junhyung: As it is the year of the blue dragon, I will become a dragon, LOL!

Cho Youngyun: This year, I want to get closer to more people.

Lee Sangwoon: Personally, I want to release a song I composed this year.

Yu Dabin: I would like to participate in an awards ceremony.

You Myeongjong: I would like to participate in an awards ceremony too! 

What are your long-term goals for YUDABINBAND?

Lee Junhyung: I want to give more positive energy to more people.

Cho Youngyun: I want to see these friends for a long time.

Lee Sangwoon: I want to continue to spread our song wherever I go.

You Myeongjong: I want to top the national bands!

Lastly, is there anything else you want to say about yourselves or your music?

Lee Junhyung: Thank you for all the love, and we’ll gift you guys more good songs.

Cho Youngyun: We’ll work harder and more humbly.

Lee Sangwoon: Tomorrow’s voyage will be happier with our fans!
