YOUNG POSSE’s Much-Deserved Confidence
The one-of-a-kind group talks about their name, animated alter egos, pre-debut nerves, and goal of having a “perfect” performance.
Please introduce yourselves and share a fun fact about yourself and/or a special skill you bring to the group!
YEONJUNG: Hello! I have a very unique voice [and] dreamed of becoming a dancer. So I'm interested in dance and choreography creation.
JIANA: I'm JIANA, the lead vocalist of YOUNG POSSE. I love to sing Ariana Grande's songs.
SUNHYE: Hello, I'm all-rounder leader SUNHYE. I'm into writing lyrics and [working with] MIDI these days.
JIEUN: I'm the youngest in this group. As I wrote in the lyrics of "ROTY," I made my debut suddenly, but I'm calmer and [more] passionate than anyone.
DOEUN: I'm DOEUN, and I'm [like the] giraffe [in] YOUNG POSSE. I love cooking delicious dishes for my members!
For those who have not heard your music before, how would you describe it to them? How would you finish the sentence “YOUNG POSSE is __”?
“YOUNG POSSE is young and playful at heart,” but on the stage we [have] charisma!
Your band name has been described as meaning “youth with a purpose.” What does that expression mean to you?
When we work together, things that we can't do individually become possible. “POSSE” means “anything is possible” [“to be able”] in Latin, so it's a word that we like to dream about all the time.
How are YOUNG POSSE UP and MACARONI CHEESE similar and different?
Last year, we went to perform in New Zealand with KARD, the biggest artist from our record company, where “POSSE UP!” was very popular. The audience took videos of us and posted them on TikTok, and they received more views than our official [uploads]. With that as an opportunity, we thought of remixing “POSSE UP!,” which was a B-side on our debut album. [The] song is a good indication of what team we are and what stories we want to tell the public. In [newer] albums, you [are] able to meet [the real] YOUNG POSSE, who [have] found some stability.
You have really cute animated images on your album covers! Do you consider those to be your animated alter egos? Will future cover art also feature those characters?
Thank you for saying “cute.” We love those characters too! “YOUNG POSSE UP” is like “POSSE UP!”'s fraternal twin, so a similar cover image was used. Whether to continue using those animations depends on the concept and story of the album.
Have you gotten any advice from your agency’s senior artists?
Young-ji of KARA and BM of KARD are really kind people. They constantly give us courage and tell us that it will go well. [We are] envious of such relaxation and warmth [but] always grateful [to receive it].
What was it like to perform at the RBW label concert this past summer? Did anything surprise you or stand out to you about the experience?
We were so nervous that we [can’t] remember that day. [We] really didn't think anyone would cheer for us, and the pre-debut stage was so scary because no one knew us. But thankfully, the audience enjoyed our music that day. Perhaps, [as fans of] RBW, they watched with warmer hearts.
What has been the most exciting moment of your time in YOUNG POSSE so far?
When we heard our debut date.
What are your short-term and long-term goals for YOUNG POSSE?
[We] want to put on a performance where everything is perfect [and we have] no regrets. Maybe someday we can do it, right?
Lastly, do you have a message for your fans or anything else you want to say about YOUNG POSSE?
[Waiting] to have fans was a series of days when we were anxious. More people than [we] thought said that our music and dances were good, so [we feel like we have] to repay them with better, more fun music and performances every day. Our fan club name is “TELE-POSSE;” no matter how long we are apart, telepathy will work, so please wait for [our] next album! It will [be] big!
