The Future of K-Pop Concerts
My pitches for how K-pop artists can make their concerts stand out!
As the number of K-pop world tours rises, fans increasingly have to pick and choose which shows to attend. Here are my ideas for how artists can convince fans to pick their shows over others!
The idea: A 4D concert experience
An artist who’s going to try it: U2. They’ll be performing at The Sphere this fall, a $2.1 billion venue in Vegas! This new venue boasts the world’s largest LED screen, multi-sensory technology, and a multi-layered audio system that gives every attendee a surround-sound experience!
K-pop artist who should try it: TXT
Why it would work: A road trip, time underwater, a dark and spooky forest, a frozen landscape, a magical Neverland, a carnival in the sky… TXT’s music videos are a natural fit for a venue meant to bring musical storytelling to life in a next-level immersive way!
The idea: A mini-residency
An artist who’s tried it: The Jonas Brothers, who performed songs from a different musical era on each night of a “5 Nights, 5 Albums” series!
K-pop artist who should try it: BTS
How it could work: Each night could focus on either a different BTS era or a different member’s solo discography!
The idea: A new setlist surprise each night
An artist who’s tried it: Taylor Swift, who had different famous guests on stage throughout her last tour and is singing one surprise setlist addition per night on her current tour!
K-pop artist who should try it: BIGBANG
Why it would work: BIGBANG have the legendary status and lengthy discography needed to keep the audience excitedly guessing which of their throwbacks will get some shine each night!
Other Concert Ideas
A day-long show: The lineup throughout the day would consist of many mini-shows and would be perfect for NCT! There could be different sets for NCT 127, NCT DREAM, NCT U, WayV, NCT DOJAEJUNG, certain members solo, “DJ Johnny’s Afterparty,” and a special preview performance of NCT Tokyo!
An American Idol-style tour: Audience members could vote for their favorite contestant, with the winner in each city entering the televised phase of the season!
Got other ideas? Feel free to share them with me, and I might cover your suggestion on an upcoming episode of 17 Carat K-Pop!
Very cool ideas!
