Meet P-Pop Icons VXON!
This boy group from the Philippines opens up about the surprises that came with fame, their hopes for P-pop’s global rise, and much more!
Please introduce yourselves and share what skills or special traits each member adds to the group!
C13: Hello guys! This is C13, VXON’s leader and main rapper. I’ve had years of training and experience in performing, and I do the choreography for our songs with Coach Matt and the boys. I also write songs with [the] members. I oversee everything in the group.
Sam: Hello, this is Sam. I’m the lead rapper and sub-vocalist. I’m hands-on when it comes to songwriting, especially for the raps. I also contribute to the group’s vocals and give suggestions for our choreography and dance style.
Franz: Hi, I’m Franz, the main vocalist of the group. Aside from being the main vocalist, I also partake in the conceptualizing of our content. I’m very hands-on when it comes to songwriting and conceptualizing our music videos, as I’m a film student.
Vince: Hi guys! This is Vince, the visual and lead vocalist. I don’t really talk that much, but I do give a helping hand when I see one of my group members needs a shoulder to lean on.
Patrick: Hi, I’m Patrick. I’m the main dancer of the group. I love watching dance videos, and they inspire me to help make our song’s choreography. I also enjoy rapping, so I help write the raps in our songs.
For those who have never heard your music before, how would you describe it to them? How would you finish the sentence “VXON is ___” or “VXON’s music is ___”?
All: VXON’s music is always purposeful, because we always send a message to people who listen to us. When we write songs, we make sure to give messages that can touch the listeners. We can describe our music as diverse, but at the same time, it has its own identity.
Since your name is pronounced “Vision,” what is your personal vision? What does the name “Vision” mean to you?
All: Every member shares the same vision for the group. Our group’s main vision is to inspire others through our music. We [would] also like to dominate the charts in the future and be excellent performers.
C13: As someone who was inspired by [the] music that changed my life, my vision is to give back what made me pursue my dreams. I want to help people reach their dreams. My vision is for P-pop to be known worldwide as well.
Sam: My vision is to impact a lot of people in different aspects.
Patrick: I want to touch the hearts of people.
Franz: My vision is to share important messages and have better insights [about] the world.
Vince: My vision is for P-pop to introduce the hidden gems [of] the Philippines.
What do you think makes P-pop music different from other categories of music? What special traits do you think P-pop has?
All: We can say that P-pop is now a genre of its own. P-pop was inspired [by] a lot of genres. One thing that makes P-pop special is that you can hear and feel the Pinoy touch when you listen to P-pop. The drive and passion of the community will always be there, helping make P-pop rise!
Please describe your newest single, “Fiyaah,” and why people should go listen to it!
All: Our latest single, “Fiyaah,” is a wake-up call to the young generation. We wrote this song hoping to inspire the listeners to bring out their inner fire.
What is something people would be surprised to know about making the “Fiyaah” music video?
All: During the music video shoot, Patrick was injured during the filming process. Also, we [had] just finished [a performance], so we were feeling a bit tired, but when we arrived on set, we were so astounded by the beauty of the set and the energy of everyone that our exhaustion went away.
Do you plan to explore different types of music in the future, or would you rather focus on creating one specific sound that defines VXON?
All: We are open to exploring other genres, but for now, we want to focus on showing our dark and light sides through our music.
What is the most exciting experience you have had as a member of VXON so far?
C13: When our debut track, “The Beast,” was released. That really solidified the idea that VXON was born.
Franz: When we were able to meet our VIXIES [the fans] for the first time.
Vince: Mine was during the PPOPCON performance. That was our first big stage, so we trained nonstop from morning until dawn.
Patrick: I was very excited when brands contacted us.
Sam: I’m very excited [about] the opportunities that were given to us that we [had] never imagined.
Has anything surprised you about what it’s like to be a boy band member?
All: At first, we were very surprised about how groups in general train on a daily basis. We also had to sacrifice a lot of things in order to pursue our dream of becoming idols. The amount of projects that we had to do was unexpected at first, but we’re really grateful for the opportunities that were given to us, [even in] just a span of nine months since we debuted.
What are your short-term and long-term career goals?
All: Short term goals: improve daily on minor and major things when preparing for performances. Long term: dominate charts, work hard in every aspect of our art in order to give our best each time, reach more people through our music, [and] help introduce P-pop to the world.
Lastly, do you have a message for your fans or anything else you want to say about your music, or about P-pop in general?
All: First of all, we would like to thank our VIXIES for the love and support that you’ve been giving us. We [would] also like to thank everyone in the P-pop industry for helping P-pop rise. For everyone who wants to follow their dreams, do what moves you. Follow your heart. Do what you want, [and] love what you do.
