How has your music taste evolved over the years?
When I was in high school, I really only listened to pop music. After coming to Korea, I started to listen to a lot of band-sound-based music, as well as rap and R&B, and I think because of that, I’m able to make music that has different genre influences.
Was there a specific person or event that made you realize you wanted to pursue a music career?
A big reason why I wanted to pursue a music career was to pursue something that my dad [did]. My dad studied vocal performance, and he was the one [who] truly surrounded my life little by little with music.
What are some things people would be surprised to learn about what it is really like being on a music competition show?
The shoots for the shows are super long. Even though watching the show only takes like an hour and half per episode, it takes so many hours to record and prepare for these programs. And it is far more mentally tough [to be on those shows] than a lot of people think.
How did time on a music competition show change you?
I think being on a music competition [show] really helped me as a vocalist. It really helped me decide what works for me and what I need to work on as an artist. Being on the show really helped me think about how I should shape my performances so that people are able to enjoy [them along] with me [and] feel the emotions that I convey.

Please share some information about the songs on 20. Fun facts, the sources of inspiration... whatever you want to say about them!
A fun fact I really want to say is about the song “Siren.” I originally wanted to make it an up-tempo song; it was originally much faster. But my producer asked if I wanted to try and make it a ballad. I realized that was a great idea too, and that’s how it came to be. [It went] from [a] sweet, up-tempo love song to [the] saddest breakup song ever.
What are your short-term and long-term career goals?
Short-term, I want my music to reach a lot more people, to the point where I can compare [the numbers] to this year’s and really see the change. Long-term, I [want to] become the “Prince of Pop” in Korea.
Lastly, is there anything else you want to say about yourself or your music?
I’m working on being honest [with] my feelings so my fans and listeners can really connect with me and my art. It’s a long journey, but if you're curious, just put on your headphones and come along with me.
