Grizzly Talks “Gorgeous,” Goals, and More

Grizzly explains why he took a break from Instagram, what his latest songs are about, the future of the “Flower Shop” series, and more!

For those who have not heard your music before, how would you describe it to them? How would you finish the sentence “Grizzly is ____” or “Grizzly’s music is ____”?

“Grizzly is colorful.”

How did you choose your stage name, and did you consider any other stage names first?

I’ve loved bears since I was a child, so when I was thinking about what to choose for my stage name, I decided it would be great to use something related to my favorite animal. Among bear names like “Grizzly,” “Polar Bear,” and “Panda,” I chose “Grizzly”! I could have been performing as “Polar Bear” now!

Please describe your new single, “Gorgeous”!

This song is dedicated to everyone who wants to feel gorgeous. It expresses the dizzying emotions of someone who has suddenly fallen in love. The narrator describes meeting “you” as a great fortune and portrays that moment with affection.

Can you share a “TMI” story or surprising fact about making your new single?

Actually, this single was initially planned for a September release with more preparations, but I loved the song so much that I wanted to share it sooner, so I moved it up to July!

Can you talk about your other latest single, “Pretty Lady”?

“Pretty Lady” is a hymn to all things beautiful! Through this song, I wanted to sing about everything beautiful in this world. While the song limits this to “Pretty Lady,” listeners can think of their own beauties, be it lovers, parents, pets, nature, or the seasons, making the song even more enjoyable. I worked on this song with writers from abroad, which was a fantastic experience! We got to exchange and savor each other’s different [instincts].

Earlier this year, you completely refreshed your Instagram account. Was that just to signify the start of your next musical era, or was there another reason behind it? 

I took a break from Instagram to spend some time exploring and finding myself. I wanted to think deeply about the kind of music I want to create and how I want to express myself. Honestly, not much has changed. I’d say it was just a time for self-reflection. The more serious I got, the heavier music and life felt.

Do you expect to ever release Flower Shop4? 

Of course I do! If I ever have a collection of simple and comforting love songs, I’d like to release it under the name Flower Shop.

Out of all the songs you have written and/or produced for other artists, which one are you the most proud of or happy with, and why?

“RUN,” a collaboration with CHUNG HA. While it is my song, I put a lot of thought into what kind of music would be great to make with CHUNG HA. I carefully produced the track, finding elements that would suit her perfectly.

Who would you love to make a song for that you have not yet?

I would love to give a song to LEE SUHYUN from AKMU.

What are your goals for the rest of 2024?

I aim to stick to my plans without wavering and put them into action.

Lastly, is there anything else you want to say about yourself or your music?

I sincerely want to express my gratitude to all the people who are listening to my music.
