Get to Know Meriberry!

Meriberry talks about her songs, a musician she looks up to, and her hopes for the future!

How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it before? How would you finish the sentence “Meriberry is __” or “Meriberry’s music is __”?

"Meriberry is a sweet and refreshing artist" and "Meriberry’s music is as energizing as the sunshine on a summer day"! 

Please tell us about your new single, "Love Equation"! 

I created a formula in my mind so I wouldn't make a mistake in front of my crush! The song is about the confusion and excitement of falling in love, because the formula doesn't apply. What happens in the end with the [love interest] is in the last part of the lyrics in the song!

Can you share any fun facts about making the music video for "Love Equation"? 

It was my first time acting, so it was awkward, but the people who helped me on set created a fun atmosphere, so I was able to quickly relax and enjoy the shoot! Also, there's a [moment] in the last scene when I confess to the male lead, and I was so embarrassed that I asked the actor not to look at me, so he's actually looking into thin air!

Please talk about each of these songs: 

“Universe”: "Universe" is my debut song! It was a lot of trial and error, which is why I love it so much and have so many memories of it. It's got a lot of things I love in it: jazz, the phrase "like a dream," and a colorful melody! 

"Sun Shower": This song is perfect for a rainy day! There are two versions of this song, the original and the acoustic version, and they have different charms, so please listen to them [both]! 

"BadA": This is the song that exposed my dancing skills. It was the first time I prepared a choreographed song, and everyone couldn't stop laughing when they saw my dancing skills. I may not be a dancer, but I love to dance! If you're curious, you can watch [my] “BadA” choreography practice videos on YouTube!

"Confession": This song is about confessing feelings that [have] been building up. I tried to capture a little bit of my shy yet fearless side! Definitely listen to it before you go to confess [a secret] to someone!

“it's a sunny day": This song reminds me of a field with a cool breeze. This song puts me in a good mood! Listen to it when you're driving or going to a picnic, and you'll have a lot of fun! 

Do you plan to keep releasing songs one by one, or will you release a full-length album next? 

[I] don't have any finalized plans yet, but if everyone's interest and love grows immensely, [a] full album might come sooner! Please give a lot of love so that [my] full album can come sooner! 

I like that you released "Sun Shower" with an acoustic version! Would you ever consider releasing other songs’ acoustic versions too?

It's one of [my] many plans for the future! I'm thinking of releasing acoustic versions of the songs released so far, as well as some acoustic songs that are a bit different from past songs and have a calmer feel to them. Please look forward to [them]!

Who do you admire in the music industry, and why? 

Ella Fitzgerald. She is the master of jazz who made me fall in love with the world of music. The first time I heard an Ella Fitzgerald song, I was stunned, like time stopped. That was the first time I realized that you can get inside a person's heart with music. I admire her!

What are your short-term and long-term career goals? 

My short-term goal is to practice being able to live in the moment a little more on stage. I recently had my first solo mini-concert and realized that I was so nervous and shaky that it was hard to fully enjoy the stage and the audience. I was so disappointed and have been practicing harder since then! My long-term goal is to be the singer that people think of when they need a pick-me-up, when they want to feel excited. I won't stop singing until that day!

Is there anything else you'd like to say about yourself or your music? 

To myself: Don't forget and lose that feeling that made you start making music in the first place. Make music that is like a ray of sunshine in people's hearts, [that speaks to] their feelings and delivers happy energy. Keep running hard and don’t stop!
