For those who have not heard your music, how would you describe it to them? How would you finish the sentence “CRUCiAL STAR is ___” or “CRUCiAL STAR’s music is ___”?

Why did you choose your stage name?

예명을 정한 이유는 무엇이며?

처음엔 멋있어보이는 단어를 찾다가 Crucial 이라는 단어를 선택하게 되었다. 오히려 이름을 짓고 나중에 되어서야 내 이름이 가진 의미를 사랑하게 되었다. 중대한 어떤 일을 해낼 별이 된다는 것은 멋진 일이다.

At first, I was looking for a word that looked cool, but I ended up choosing the word “Crucial.” It wasn't until after I [chose] it that I came to love the meaning. It's wonderful to be a star who can do something important.

What led you to pursue a music career?

음악 경력을 쌓게 된 계기는 무엇입니까? 

처음엔 재밌어서 시작한 일이다. 하지만 10년 넘게 음악을 해오면서 단순한 재미를 뛰어넘는 나만의 의미를 추구하게 되었다. 많은 뮤지션들이 내게 영감을 주지만, 더이상 내게 롤모델은 없다. 롤모델을 없애고, 오직 내 자신에게 집중할 때 오히려 큰 영감과 에너지가 충전된다.

It started because it was fun. However, as I have been doing music for over ten years, I have come to pursue my own meaning that goes beyond simple fun. A lot of musicians inspire me, but I no longer have a role model. When I get rid of role models and focus only on myself, I get a lot of inspiration and energy.

Please describe “come to my stu (Remix)” and something people would be surprised to learn about the making of the song!

“come to my stu (Remix)” 는 내게 있어 중요한 노래이다. 방송에서 아쉽게 보여주지 못한 나의 메세지와 재능이 담겨있는 곡이기 때문이다. 당신들은 이 노래를 들으며 '멜로디 랩'이라는 것이 무엇인지 배울 수 있다. '멜로디 랩'의 교과서 같은 곡이다.

“come to my stu (Remix)” is an important song to me, because it's a song that contains my message and talent that I unfortunately couldn't show on the air. You can learn what “melody rap” is by listening to this song. This song is like a textbook for “melody rap.”

What have been the biggest changes to your music over the years? How do your songs from years ago differ from your newer songs?

몇 년 동안 음악에 가장 큰 변화는 무엇이었나요? 몇 년 전의 노래가 새 노래와 어떻게 다른가요?

나는 정확히 2년 전부터 변화를 꿈꿨다. 단순한 음악의 변신이 아닌, 내 라이프 스타일의 변화를 도모했다. 나는 힙합 뮤지션으로써 단 한번도 힙합을 살아본 적이 없다. 내가 진정으로 변화를 원한다면 내 라이프 스타일부터 바꿔야만 했다. 나는 매순간 자유롭고자 했고, 주체적이고자 했으며, 진실되고자 했다. 그런 노력이 내 음악을 변화시켰고, 결국엔 내 모든 일의 결과를 변화시켰다.

I dreamed of a change exactly two years ago. It was not just a simple change in music, but a change in my lifestyle. As a hip-hop musician, I [had] never lived hip-hop. If I really wanted to change, I had to change my lifestyle first. I wanted to be free every moment, I wanted to be independent, and I wanted to be true. That kind of effort changed my music and eventually changed the results of all my work.

What are the three biggest sources of ideas for your songs?

What are the most rewarding things about being a musician?

나로 인해 누군가가 좋은 영향을 받을 때 보람이 있다. 하지만 더이상 그것을 위해 음악을 하지는 않는다. '보람'을 위해 예술을 하는 레벨은 이미 지났다.

It is rewarding when someone is influenced positively because of me, but I don't do music for [the influence] anymore. The [time] of doing art for [feeling rewarded] has passed.

Do you have a favorite CRUCiAL STAR song? If not, does there seem to be one CRUCiAL STAR song that is the fans’ favorite?

CRUCiAL STAR의 가장 좋아하는 노래가 있나요? 그렇지 않다면 팬들이 가장 좋아하는 CRUCiAL STAR 노래가 하나 있을 것 같은데요?

지금 작업중인 내 새로운 앨범이 내 favorite songs 다. 내 팬들은 최근에 발매한 'come to my stu (Remix)'를 굉장히 좋아한다.

The new album I'm working on is my favorite. My fans really like the recently-released “come to my stu (Remix).”

Would you ever consider going back on a show like Show Me the Money 11, or would you prefer to leave that in the past?

쇼미더머니 같은 프로그램에 다시 출연할 생각이 있습니까, 아니면 과거에 남기고 싶습니까?

나는 쇼미더머니11 에서 내 실력을 제대로 확실히 보여주었다. 더이상 나는 그곳에서 증명할 것이 없다.

I clearly demonstrated my skills on Show Me the Money 11. I have nothing more to prove there.

What is next for you? Are there any projects you can tease or goals you have for the rest of 2023?

다음은 무엇입니까? 남은 2023년 동안 티저할 수 있는 프로젝트나 목표가 있나요?

4th LP를 작업중이다. 2023년에 발표하는 것이 목표이다.

[I am] working on the fourth [album]. The goal is to release it in 2023.
