BEWAVE on Tunes, Travel, and Teamwork
The girl group celebrates six months since debuting and talks about current dreams and goals!
Please introduce yourselves and share what special charms or skills each member adds to the group!
JIUN: Hello! I’m JIUN, the first member of BEWAVE, and I’m from Gimhae!
YUNSEUL: Hello! I’m YUNSEUL. I was born on the same day as JIUN but a bit later, which makes me the second member. I’m the pure visual of the group.
LENA: Hello! I’m LENA, the only foreign member of BEWAVE! I might sound like the Japanese manga character Shin-chan when I speak Korean, but I show a cool and charismatic side on stage!
ZENA: Hello! I’m ZENA, and I’m known as the strong and dependable member of BEWAVE. I might come across as cold [or] stern, but I try to stand firm and make the right judgements in any situation. Also, I think my charm is being the shortest among the members.
AIN: Hello! I’m AIN, bringing refreshing and pure vibes to BEWAVE!
GOWOON: Hello! I’m GOWOON. I’m the team’s cute and lovable maknae.
For those who have not heard your music before, how would you describe it to them? How would you finish the sentence “BEWAVE is ___” or “BEWAVE’s music is ___”?
“BEWAVE is a group that has both youth and youthfulness!”
Please describe your new single album, Be your Wave!
Be your Wave is [about] moments when we have felt joy, sadness, happiness, love, fun, and heart-bursting emotions. [These] are our “wave” moments. We hope to resonate with all young people and sing about all of our overwhelming moments together.
How do the songs on Be your Wave relate to each other?
While “Hard to get to you” depicts the process of getting to you, the feelings you feel along the way, and the sharing of moments, “Never lose you again” is about reaching you and then vowing to never let go. When you listen to this album, [“Hard to get to you”] feels like a youth movie, and [“Never lose you again”] feels like a follow-up.
What are the main differences between Be your Wave and your debut mini-album, BE;WAVE?
For this album, we especially tried to convey the emotions of the songs well. The title track has a lot of musical elements in the choreography, because we wanted to express the lyrics well! We also practiced facial expressions a lot to better express them.
What were the biggest differences when filming the “Hard to get to you” music video compared to filming the “SING !” performance video?
This music video is a dramatization, so all the members had to try their hands at acting! There might be some clumsy parts, but we tried our best, so please give us a lot of love! Also, there were a lot of water scenes and running scenes in this music video, so it was physically challenging, but we worked hard with all the staff to achieve a good result!
Since the members have different levels of experience, has it been challenging to all get on the same page?
Although we joined BEWAVE at different times, we all had the same love for music and dance, so we eventually came together as one, practicing and preparing with the same goal in mind. Throughout the process of debuting and now making a comeback, there were many times when we were exhausted, but we were able to rely on and support each other.
Will there be more seasons of the “[BE;TRAVEL]” YouTube series? If so, where would you like to travel?
AIN: When winter comes, I'm going to a ski resort with my school friends. I think it's going to be fun!
LENA: I want to go to the members' houses! I want to see [their] home-cooked meals, their own rooms, and their routines!
Congratulations on reaching six months since debut! What are your favorite memories so far since debuting as BEWAVE?
Every moment [has been] amazing and wonderful! [We are] really grateful for the moments when [we have been able] to show you the music and stages that [we have] worked so hard to prepare. There were many moments that were hard and exhausting, but they are valuable and overwhelming memories for all of [us].
Finish this thought: “I want to share a more ____ side of BEWAVE in the future.”
JIUN: I would like to show a good stage to more fans in the future.
YUNSEUL: I want to continue to show my pretty face to more fans in the future.
LENA: I would like to show more fans my beautiful side.
ZENA: I would like to have more time to meet and communicate with fans more frequently in the future.
AIN: I would like to repay more fans’ love with good music and stages in the future.
GOWOON: We would like to show our fans that we are doing our best, so that they can love us even more in the future.
What are your short-term and long-term career goals?
We want to show you all the things we've prepared for this single album to the best of our abilities, so that we can spread the word about BEWAVE. We're trying to do a lot of different activities to showcase each member’s charms. To be greedy, we would like to be Number One on music broadcasts.
Lastly, is there anything else you want to say about yourselves or your music?
[We] would like to continue to make music that all young people can relate to. [We] would be really happy if everyone could listen to our music, feel various emotions, and empathize with us. We worked really hard on this single album, so please give it a lot of attention and love!
